4.0 out of 5 stars SOME REMASTERED VERSIONS IN THIS SET, February 28, 2011

This review is only for those interested in sound quality. For reviews regarding content, please see other posts in this forum, or go to All Music Guide (dot com).

The first album, Talk Talk Talk and Forever Now are the 2008 remastered, expanded versions (see the links for these editions).

However, "Mirror Moves" is the original audio version, and is sadly in need of remastering.

The "Midnight To Midnight" disc is a remastered version, but has been subjected to some pretty harsh loudness compression, so beware. It also... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Leading the New Wave, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Original Album Classic (Audio CD)
The Psychedlic Furs captured the potential of a maturing punk rock sound on their initial two outings - The Psychedelic Furs (1980), Talk Talk Talk (1981) - which mostly baffled those compiling playlists for AOR radio stations, but built a loyal following of fans who were riding the new wave that briefly swept the record industry.

The 5-CD set includes all but one studio release from the 1980s - the aforementioned pair, plus Forever Now (1982), Mirror Moves (1984) and Midnight to Midnight (1987) - with the greatest hits collection, All of This and Nothing (1988), and Book of Days (1989) not included.

Richard Butler explodes onto the stage on the debut album, as he comes very close to delivery the powerhouse vocal-style of John Lydon, but within a framework of guitars and an occasional sax. The band takes a huge stride with Talk Talk Talk, as Butler brings a maturation to his style in numbers like Pretty in Pink, Dumb Waiters and Like a Train. The emerging... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Collection, June 11, 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Original Album Classic (Audio CD)
I bought this through an Amazon seller with Amazon fulfillment for $20. That's just $4 per album. Each has it's own mini-lp sleeve. This is one of the biggest box set bargains I've ever seen. It definitely took me back and I forgot how much I really liked the Furs. Butler's distinctive voice and awesome lyrics made the 80's music scene something special. There were so many unique and incredible talents hitting the music scene back then and Butler was at the head of the pack. My only complaint would be the missing albums mentioned by others in their reviews, but this collection is well worth the price of admission even at the full Amazon price, but grab it at the lower price while you can. I was lucky enough to catch the Furs' tour this year- saw them a week ago from a front row seat in a small venue. If you have the opportunity to catch their live show, don't miss it. These guys still have it. Richard seemed ecstatic to be on stage and was pogoing all over the place. It was great... Read more
