Put your angling skills to the test in the best bass locations in North America. Cabela's Monster Bass puts you in the middle of heart-pounding fishing action as you compete in 20 events to fill your live well with only the biggest bass. But time is limited, so don't be late for the weigh-in!

Cabela's Monster Bass lets you test your skills on six of America's greatest fishing lakes, including Lake Wylie, Clear Lake, Lake of the Ozarks, Lake Amistad, Logan Martin Lake, and Lake Okeechobee. You'll fish for nine species of monster bass, such as large mouth, small mouth, spotted, striped and more. There are also 14 other trophy species, such as trout, salmon, northern pike, catfish and walleye.

Casting the line is initiated by flicking the analog stick or -- for less patient players -- by inputting specific commands to attract fish. Once a fish starts biting, the fight begins. Following the on-screen visual cues, players must carefully balance reeling in the fish while keeping an eye on the line's tension so it doesn't break. Button combinations can also be used to weaken the fish's resolve, allowing for an easier catch. As players progress, additional rods, lures, and live bait become available to improve the odds of landing the "big one." Other play options include an Open Fishing mode and a Quick Challenge. The former has players fishing on their choice of lakes, while the latter involves racking up high scores in timed events.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, April 10, 2009

Looked like potentially a good game, bought it to learn more about lure selection and some entertainment while the weather was cold. The game makes you visually focus on a heads-up display for line tension so you really don't get to watch the action. Pretty much just get to stare at an indicator bar, very disappointing.

For a game released in 2009, this could have been a lot better. The graphics are okay; for a fishing game they should have been sharper. The gameplay is tedious after you catch a couple of fish. The strange arcade-like buttons and actions don't feel right for a fishing game.

If you like casual games or really, really like fishing games then give it a shot. Otherwise don't waste your money on a product that could have been a million times more interesting.

This game is a real tough one to evaluate. The graphics are awesome, and the fishing is varied enough to make it interesting. BUT... on certain lakes (which I cringe at when I see them loading) there are SO MANY GLITCHES that is makes it almost impossible to get through the level... or at least so frustrating that you'll just want to play something (anything) else. The underwater and above water visuals are stunning at times, and the fish (especially the Larry's) look awesome. However, you can only pick a male or female character, with no modifications. So there are some definite limitations. But... IF you're a patient person, and know that at certain times it's gonna take you an EXTRA LONG time to get through a level, give this game a shot. It has some of the best fishing graphics of any game I've seen, but also has the most glitches. Such as... the underwater graphics zoom out so far, that you are actually fishing from UNDERNEATH the lake bottom... WEIRD. Or, it is... Read more
